Who we are

Amal Al Sighar began in 2004 in a rented room in Jabal Al Hussein, where a group of Amman teachers ran a weekend reading club for refugee children. Today we fund and support local organisations in 12 countries that protect children, keep them in school and stand by their families.

We do not run programmes from a distance. Our partners know their neighbourhoods; we give them funding, training and a network of peers who face the same challenges.

Six ways we help

  1. We find and fund

We seek out local organisations doing outstanding work for children and give them the funding they need.

  2. We build networks

We connect partners so they can share ideas, resources and what works.

  3. We strengthen partners

Training and mentoring help our partners grow stronger and reach more children.

  4. We teach

Safe classrooms, school supplies and teachers give children a chance to learn.

  5. We provide care

Healthcare, nutrition and counselling for children who need it most.

  6. We advise

We advise governments and communities on policies that protect children's rights.
