A day on the mountains

Maysa Halabi

One long hike, three valleys and the best picnic spot we have ever found.

We left the village before dawn, following a shepherds' trail that climbs through pine forest into open meadows. By mid-morning the clouds were below us.

The trail is well marked but steep in places, so take your time and drink often. We stopped at a small lake for lunch and had the whole view to ourselves.

Check the weather the evening before, tell someone your route and carry layers. Mountain weather changes fast, even on a sunny day.
