Christ The Savior – Rio de Janeiro

Maysa Halabi

Climbing to the statue that watches over Rio, and the view that makes it worth it.

The statue on the mountain above Rio is even more striking in person. Arms wide open, it looks over beaches, forest and the whole sprawling city.

Take the cog train through the rainforest for the most scenic ride up, and go early: by midday the viewing platform is packed and clouds often roll in.

Afterwards, head down to the botanical garden for a quiet walk among giant palms. It is the perfect contrast to the crowds at the top.
