What are blockchain transaction fees?
Wael Sabra
Why every blockchain transaction costs a fee, what makes fees go up and how to pay less.
Every time you send crypto, you pay a small fee to the people who keep the network running. Here is how that works.
Transactions are bundled into blocks by miners or validators. Space in each block is limited, so users bid for it with fees. When the network is busy, fees rise; when it is quiet, they fall.
To pay less, send at quieter times, use a wallet that suggests a sensible fee and consider layer-2 networks for small payments. Always double-check the fee before you confirm, because it cannot be refunded.
